ELSA Open Day in Kempten

On the 12th of September, the ELSA partners at the pilot site in Kempten (Germany) held successfully a local Open Day. Regional stakeholders, namely residents, representatives of local politics and the interested public visited the ELSA battery energy management system installed at the test district "Auf dem Bühl". At the Open Day ELSA components and related business models were showcased and discussed with interested local stakeholders. The pilot site is one of six trial sites that demonstrates on the one hand that combining 2nd-life batteries with innovative local ICT-based energy management systems is technically feasible and environmentally friendly. On the other hand, it is being demonstrated that district level energy storage with undismantled 2nd-life batteries from electric vehicles to enhance self-consumption of electricity from roof-top solar panels is a promising alternative to individual batteries in single-family houses. The 2nd-life batteries are used for stationary energy storage systems and are installed in a transformer station nearby the apartment blocks.
